Task Execution Protocol

The repeatable framework for getting any single task done โ€” from picking it off the board to signing it off. This is the backbone every job-specific task plugs into.

1 The General + Site-Specific Model

This protocol is the master (Tier 1) โ€” it's true on every job. A job site adds a thin overlay (Tier 2) with only the site-specific bits (access, contacts, constraints). The overlay adds or constrains; it never contradicts the master.

๐Ÿงฉ Costco example
The master says "run a pre-task brief." The Costco Task Library + Costco Safety overlay say what's specific to Costco (forklift zones, food-area isolation, facility hot-work authorization).

2 The Execution Loop

  1. Pull the task. Take it from the Live Task Board. Confirm it's assigned to you and set its status to in progress.
  2. Pre-task brief (PTP). Before each distinct activity, run the brief: what we're doing, hazard scan, controls, PPE, roles, scope boundary, questions. (See Communication Protocol for the full agenda.) Re-brief if conditions change mid-task.
  3. Set up safely. Apply controls identified in the brief โ€” LOTO if working on energized systems (OHSR Part 10), fall protection for heights (Part 13), hot-work permit + fire watch if cutting/welding (BC Fire Code Div. B s.5.2).
  4. Execute to the standard. Follow the steps in the site task library. Active-voice, one action at a time. Work to the quality criteria in Quality & Safety Standards โ€” not "looks fine," but the written criteria.
  5. Quality gate. Hit the pass/fail checkpoint for the task. Employees do not self-certify complete โ€” the site manager confirms in-progress and completed scope.
  6. Log it. Record the task in the Execution Log: who, time, status, issues/deviations, photos (before/during/after). Same-day โ€” verbal-only becomes a dispute.
  7. Update the board + sign off. Set status to done (or blocked with a reason). Site manager signs off. The board reflects reality for the whole crew.

4 Task Types

Every task carries a type so the board and reports are scannable:
